Man arrested for drunk driving after New Jersey chase
|
ByBrickfield & Donahue
Late last month, a man was arrested after allegedly leading police on a
high-speed chase. The man is facing multiple charges after reportedly
running through a red light and hitting two police cars during their attempts
to stop the vehicle. He now faces charges of eluding police, aggravated
assault, resisting arrest and driving while intoxicated in New Jersey.
These charges are severe, and might result in a serious penalty including
time in jail and a fine if the person is convicted. Many times when a
person is arrested, police and prosecutors will work together to try to
charge and then convict a person with multiple crimes. This will increase
the person’s jail time or fine.
Speaking with an experienced criminal defense attorney after an arrest
might be a wise decision. Even if a person isn’t charged with a crime,
speaking to an attorney in New Jersey can help a person start to form
a rigorous defense. It is important that people who are arrested don’t
say anything to police that might result in their incrimination. An attorney
can help guide a person during any questioning by police and investigators.
If a person is convicted, an attorney can help evaluate the person’s
case and make sure all procedures and laws were followed. They can help
a person file for an appeal to a higher court. Drunk driving and other
criminal charges can result in a person spending time in jail and lead
to them being stigmatized by their community after they serve their sentence.
This makes it important to rigorously defend against charges.
