Alleged drunk driver arrested after 18 miles in wrong direction

With the New Year’s celebration just past, we thought it would be a
good idea to discuss the story of an incident that involved an alleged
DUI that occurred on New Year’s Day.
A driver allegedly drove the wrong way for 18 miles on an Interstate highway
in Pennsylvania. How is this possible? Police suspect that the driver
was driving drunk.
The wrong way driver was driving on the highway in the early morning hours,
at 5:30 a.m. on New Year’s Day. The traffic was light and, thankfully
the wrong way driver was not involved in an accident. However, several
witnesses made calls to the police about the vehicle driving in the wrong
direction and driving at a high rate of speed.
When law enforcement officials arrived on the scene they say that they
tried to get the driver’s attention by using emergency lights and
spotlights. However, the 22-year-old driver did not stop until she came
upon a roadblock set up by authorities.
She was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol
and reckless endangerment.
Now this young driver will have to present a defense to the criminal charges
she faces. Whether she was drunk or simply tired after a long night, will
be the center of that defense. What caused the police to suspect that
she had been drinking and driving, along with the results of any blood-alcohol
and field sobriety tests administered will also be important information
necessary as part of any criminal defense in her case.
