Police have arrested and charged a 22-year-old man after a car crash. The
accident happened in Morristown, New Jersey, and the man is accused of
drunk driving. The man is now facing charges of assault by an automobile,
driving while intoxicated and reckless driving.
Police say the man’s Mini Cooper rear-ended a Nissan four door vehicle.
The car the man allegedly hit ended up in the median, and the passengers
and drivers complained of injuries. One person was taken to the hospital
and the other two passengers complained of injuries but refused medical care.
Drunk driving charges should be taken seriously in New Jersey. This case
is more serious because of the extra charges added onto the driving while
intoxicated charge. Sometimes police will add extra charges in hopes of
getting a longer conviction.
Although it is unfortunate that the accident occurred, it is important
to remember that everyone should be allowed a fair trial. Sometimes media
coverage of an incident can adversely affect the way a trial turns out,
and it could hurt the person’s reputation even if they are innocent.
Because these charges are serious and have gained media attention, it might
be wise for someone in a similar situation to consult with a New Jersey
criminal defense attorney. A criminal defense attorney can help a person
preserve their rights. They can also help evaluate the evidence in the
case and advice the person involved on what they should and should not
tell authorities.
