A man from another state was sentenced to three years of probation last
month after being convicted of sexual assault of a New Jersey girl. The
man had stayed with the family in 2010, when authorities say he assaulted
the girl. The man then returned to his home in California, where authorities
were notified and he was arrested.
Now, a year after the man was indicted, he is facing three years of probation.
According to a report, he pleaded guilty to the charges in August 2012.
When someone is accused of such a serious crime, it might be wise to speak
with an experienced criminal defense attorney.
An attorney can help a person understand their rights and work to form
a rigorous defense. Criminal charges such as sexual assault can be extremely
detrimental to a personal reputation and possibly their career. While
it is important to be sensitive in these situations, it is also important
to defend a person’s rights.
Sometimes authorities in these cases are anxious to get a conviction, not
matter what they have to do. Some techniques used by authorities could
be unconstitutional and may harm a person’s ability to defend themselves.
In this case, a man must spend the next three years of his life under
supervision might be restricted in some ways because of probation. If
the man was in a prominent role in his career, a conviction of such a
crime might result in him needing to step down from his position.
