A town in New Jersey received a grant that funded a recent drunk driving
prevention campaign. The campaign ran from Aug. 17 to Sept. 3, and was
called “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over.” According to a report,
police arrested three alleged drunk drivers and five other people for
different alleged crimes. These campaigns are specifically designed to
target drivers that might violate the law, and subject them to testing
for sobriety. Sometimes field sobriety testing is done, which might not
actually test if the person is drunk.

These tests often require a person to balance on one foot and walk on a
tight-rope like line. Tests like that don’t always demonstrate whether
a person has the ability to safely drive a vehicle. When these campaigns
occur, police make it a goal to arrest people on drunk driving charges.
A person that makes a slight error driving might quickly find themselves
being arrested for drunk driving.

Drunk driving charges should be taken seriously in New Jersey. If a person
relies on their driver’s license for their job, a drunk driving charge
can have immediate and serious effects on their employment. In an economy
with high unemployment, jobs a few and far between and highly valuable.
